Rick Thornsburg

Assistant Pastor

Rick Thornsburg, Assistant Pastor, The Ark Church

Pastor Rick and his wife Merry are two of the original 18 Charter Members that started The Ark on its christening day August 19, 1982. They have been married for over four decades and have two grown sons and two grandchildren. A servant from the beginning, he’s driven with a desire to see people set free Spirit, Soul, and Body. Pastor Rick’s testimony has opened the doors to countless opportunities to share the gospel leading readied hearts into a personal relationship with Jesus Christ. He has ministered to those around him throughout his nearly 35 years at Duke Energy, all the way to sharing “The Power Of What We Believe” at The Arboretum on the outskirts of the Biltmore Estate (Asheville, NC), and he continues to be a willing vessel fit for The Master’s use.

Pastor Rick has been an active and integral part of the leadership of The Ark, along with ministering the Word of God on a regular basis, to teaching foundational principles in the Adult Sunday School class. The heart of a prayer warrior, he has used these gifts to lead the Intercessory prayer group at The Ark throughout the years. He was ordained an Elder in 1991… Associate Pastor in 1999… and Assistant Pastor in 2018. He is also licensed to perform many of the pastoral responsibilities as needed in support of our Sr. Pastor. He holds the unique perspective of bridging both Pastoral administrations, brings valued insight, and is helping to chart the course for The Ark.

His life is proof, that if you apply the Word of God in every area, how you start is most certainly not how you will finish. It doesn’t matter where you came from or the baggage that comes with you… in Christ EVERYTHING is made new. He is truly an example of a life changed, because of the Hope he has in Jesus Christ and he’s just getting started!
